ABOUT OUR PROJECTS

We work closely with NGOs, university academics, municipalities and others from the not-for-profit sector to produce award winning projects which address important issues in these challenging times. Inspired by a visual arts practise and always grounded in thorough research, they have been the subject of singular events and long term campaigns making a significant impact to enhance the profile of the subject matters at stake and form part of the fabric of awareness.

Below are some of the projects we have produced with our collaborators helping to engage new audiences and re-frame the questions that matter.

LEFTOVER FROM THE VOID

In the context of a sharp rise of the far right and nativism in rural Alsace, LOFTV worked with the CIBR* and the regional council to stage a six month long installation in a dilapidated and forgotten synagogue that had been ransacked by the Nazis and forced the Jewish community to flee. It served as a reminder of the ghosts of the past and their disappearance from collective memory.

The project and its legacy significantly engaged the surrounding community, received art prizes in France and Germany and generated widespread coverage on television and the national press.

Social Artivism

For this project, we collaborated with Dr Anastasia Vakulenko an expert in women's rights and intersectionality. Her research publications focused on Islamic dress which was stirring controversy through political debate and the passing of new laws in Europe; banning muslim women from wearing different types of cultural garments in public.

The project received acclaim through the Aesthetica art prize, the launch of London's international 'Nour' festival, a book jacket by Routledge and exhibitions in NYC and London.

ISLAMIC DRESS

This interactive installation, film and photography project recieved the Tango&Scan prize for creativity and was officially selected for the European creativity biennial. It also became a central exhibition at the Council of Europe, Strasbourg - one of the worlds leading human and social rights institutions.

Commissioned by Blackleaf, a French start-up innovating sustainable energy solutions, the  project focused on the relationship between the impact of background human activity and its environmental impact. A series of photographic editions was also produced in collaboration with human rights expert Johanna Nelles.

CHAUD TIME

IS POPULISM MADE FROM PLASTIC?

We created this installation and film in association with the University of Helsinki's politics department. It featured as part of HEPP 2, a major conference addressing the rise of authoritarian populism, xenophobia and nativism and threats to the future of democracy.

The project drew out the plastic qualities of populist ideology and rhetoric - cheap, toxic and lacking in substance.

ARTISTS IN THE PRESIDENT'S CABINET?

How might artists be considered as experts and help shape policy to address pressing issues from the climate crisis to covid and democratic backsliding ? This project was constructed for a one time outdoor round table debate between politicians, diplomats, activists, museum directors and scientists. It combined performance with sculpture and installation and subsequently transformed into a film animation.

CYANOBACTERIA

We have been working with STAMP UK and eminent researcher Prof. Orkun Sawyer based at the Univeristy of Warwick's department for life sciences. Cyanobacteria is one of the planet's first living organisms and responsible for the great oxygenation. It's role in acting as a vital carbon sink cannot be overstated. However it continues to come under threat with the climate crisis.

We are exploring how a creative and artistic approach to their research may help shed new light and develop our joint experiences into a captivating installation using photography and film.
