Chaud Time
An interactive art installation combining rolling metrics with painting and photography. An important question explored by this project concerns the impact and nature of background human activity on the environment. It was developed in collaboration with the sustainability start-up Blackleaf. The project won the Tango & Scan creativity and innovation prize and was exhibited as a central feature of the European Creativity biennial and at the Council of Europe Headquarters in Strasbourg.

The information projected onto a large screen projection controls the rhythm and development of the installation. At its centre a thermal camera records live images of the visitors. Different number counters appear dotted around the edges . Each counter displays statistics in realtime from events taking place locally, globally and in outer space. Some relate to human activity whilst others are naturally occurring phenomenon. They show for example the kilometers of toilet paper bought so far that year around the world or the amount of time left until we run out of oil.
A box painted in gallium metal onto graphene heaters hangs from above. It is electronically connected to the information displayed on the screen. As the metrics rise and fall so does the temperature of the heaters causing the gallium to melt and drip down into a tray below.
The drips create an abstract painting.

We also collaborated with photographer and human rights expert Johanna Nelles to produce a series of photographic editions documenting the dripped painting's evolution and contributing yet another dimension.
